Zoster: Sounds like shingles do you have a rash? Standard narcotic drugs do not work well for 'nerve pain'. (radicular pain) Membrane stabilizers and neuroactive medications can be helpful. Gabapentin is another option. Amitryptiline is considered to be good for this indication in a low dose like the one prescribed for you.
