Sore thumb: Hi, usually, the bodies own defenses can fight off superficial pokes and scrapes. However, tetanus is very real and can be from a seemingly innocent poke through the skin. If your vaccination is up to date then you likely don't need another. Please see your doctor if there is redness, persistent swelling, or greenish goo coming out of the wound. This could be a sign of a bacterial infection

Not really: You presumably were at your desk in your office when the accident happened. Tetanus is gotten from a bacterium called Clostridium tetani which doesn't grow in the presence of oxygen. So if you get a deep penetrating wound in a dirty environment you might get it, not a regular office stapler.
