Depends- 3 - 90 days: Return to work after repair of the ulnar collateral ligament (ucl) of the thumb (skiers thumb) depends on what you have to do at work and which hand (dominant or not) is injured. I have had a surgeon go back to office practice in three days and a patient who does typing work take 2 months. But usually within the first few weeks. You need to discuss your specific situation with your surgeon.

Usually a few days: Most people are able to return to office job type work within a few days after repair of the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint. However, the exact timing depends on the quality of tissue available and the technique used to repair the ligament, the type of postoperative immobilization (cast vs custom splint) and hand dominance. Be sure to ask your surgeon.

Thumb ligament: Injury treated with surgery can be safely supported in a cast or splint while allowing finger use. If pain and swelling is not an issue many return to work within a few days to a week for sedentary jobs.
