A member asked:

Does laparoscopic surgery to remove scar tissue really work? or does it just cause more scar tissue?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Catch-22.: Yes, it works, but yes it does create more scar tissue. Lysis of adhesions in the intra-abdominal cavity does work to relieve symptoms or obstruction in the short term, but the additional intra-abdominal operation can lead to new adhesions. It's a gamble, with management dictated by urgency of symptoms. Sometimes it just has to be done and we accept the risk of more adhesion creation.
