A member asked:

How long can a patient with cirrhosis of the liver with symptoms managed by medications survive after a tips procedure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe good news: The procedure can greatly improve the quality of one's life at the possible expense of making hepatic encephalopathy a bit worse. If a cause of cirrhosis can be found and removed, the condition can reverse partially. I don't know the cause, but with the new cure for hepatitis C, and the possibility that anyone may suddenly sober up, don't give up hope. Best wishes.
