It can : Response to opiates is highly variable among patients. Oral Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) is often less effective than intravenous Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride). I personally prefer oxycodone/Percocet over Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) for moderate to severe pain once a patient is on oral meds.
