I have an abscess from my broken tooth. i saw the dentist and he gave me amoxicillin and ibuprofen which neither is working. i have an unused bottle of bactrim and mo more money for the dentist for 2wks. my amoxicillin days take 1 every 8hrs so i took one

No money for extract: Hope this doesn't offend. No money is most often a matter of value not fact. Have a cell phone? Do you have a job? (If you needed $$ to get to work or you would lose it, could you find the money) Have a child? If they needed medical attention could you find the money? You need to see your dentist not take more pills. Use your imagination and get yourself cared for.

Broken Tooth: The antibiotics you were given were to manage the infection. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not used for dental infections, and mixing antibiotics is not prudent. The cause of the infection needs to be treated and may not wait for two weeks. Finance your care if necessary.

Takes time. : It takes a few days for the antibiotic to work. Usually 3-4 days. Sometimes the infection can seem to worsen or swelling occurs. Amoxicillin is strong and cheap. Some pharmacies will give it for free. The pain from abscess may not go away but lessen. It is important to keep on the amoxicillin or have the dentist switch to another antibiotic that is specific to oral infections.
