A member asked:

I have my a1c down to 5.8 does that mean i'm no longer diabetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Diabetes: At age 57 you should stop taking diabetes therapy for a few days - alternating a.m. and p.m. and see what your blood sugars tell you. If your A1c (5.8) is OK once you have stopped any medication for diabetes relax and enjoy. If A1c is higher than 5.8 please have a diabetes educator see you. Bottom line - type 2 diabetes can be forgotten and you can enjoy the rest of your life.
