Strep effects: When you start treating strep or any other infection you are playing a catch up game with the germ. The tissue injury/pain due to the infection has a head start and does not begin to respond to treatment until the antibiotic has achieved high enough blood/tissue levels to kill the germ. It is not unusual for strep throats to become more intense before responding. It's not the shot, it's the germ.
