Carotid dissection: Is one cause of neck pain on one side of the neck that shouldn't be missed. It can cause a stroke, so if you can call your doctor for a carotid ultrasound (or go to the emergency room) as soon as possible. If there's a dissection, then antiplatelet or anticoagulant (often for 3 months) is treatment to lower your risk of stroke. If no dissection, likely nothing dangerous.
