Inflamed toe.: The painful throbbing is most likely due to the heart pumping blood, with resistance, through congested and/or inflamed tissues of the toe. The inflammation causes the pain receptors to emit painful signals. The key to finding the cause is to find the cause of the inflammation. The possible reasons could include conditions such as gout or possibly a compression injury to the toe. See your doctor.
