A member asked:

My 3 y old had tonsillectomy from 3 days now he has a white spot in his tongue. he is in the antibiotic from more than one week. so worry help pls??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No worry: It is not uncommon after a tonsillectomy, that children get a white coating on the tongue due to build up of dead cells on the surface from lack of friction from eating and mild dehydration. Push fluids, and when your child is eating normally again, it should resolve. Alternatively, anyone on antibiotics can develop a yeast infection or thrush which will usually clear when off antibiotics.
