I had a groin abscess that opened and drained on its own. now no more drainage but still a hard lump.

Watch and see: It is not uncommon for a lump of scar tissue to remain after an abscess drains itself. If it is not red or painful then it is likely to continue to get better. If it stays the same for more than 2 weeks or if it gets red and sore again please see your family doctor.

Lump: Usually with an abscess is also an infection of surrounding skin (cellulitis) which may require antibiotic treatment. Sometime when people pop an abscess at home, some pus drains, and some pus spreads under the skin, making antibiotics necessary. Warm soaks in epsom salts may help. See your doctor right away.
