A member asked:

My ast is 73 and my alt is 40, should i be worried?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it needs to be ascertained why your liver enzymes are elevated. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely and repeat the test in 3 months. If you are overweight, lose weight as it may be due to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.
