What criteria is used to determine if someone needs kidney dialysis? mom is stage 4 kidney failure, diabetic, has extra ureters/prone to infection.

When dialysis: Daughter asks what criteria are used to start diaysis for her mother. A complex question that can only b answered by your mother and her Nephrologist. But absolute indications to begin tonight: uremic pericarditis, pluritis or encephalitis, unresponsive high K or fluid Fluid excess. If eGFR <5 most need dialysis depending on other symptoms and signs of renal failure. some may need at higher eGFR.
