Because: the brain is in a healing state with increased cerebral blood flow and inflammatory cytokines and therefore more vulnerable. But overall, different people have different risks of concussion and different prognostic risks. There are now biomarkers to help distinguish those at greater risk, although it is not absolute.

Second impact: Current work is that this has something to do with very subtle changes in membranes that, if injured twice within a few days of each other, allow sodium to pass through too easily. The second concussion isn't easier to get, it's just much more serious as it can produce massive cerebral edema and death. This is probably the real cause of Bruce Lee's death.
