More information nee: The back pain radiating to the left leg may occur with a disc or spur in the vertebral area pressing on a nerve root. There is no direct anatomic connection between the left leg and the left shoulder. Therefore all of these pains may not be interrelated. It's best for your friend to see a physician who will take a thorough history and perform an examination and do appropriate tests for diagnosis.
