A member asked:

What injuries require for your arm to be in a sling? does a bruised shoulder require a sling? do x-rays prove whether or not you need a sling?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

You may need: a sling to support your arm with any type of injury that will compromise your shoulder joint, or cause more pain if the arm is left to swing to gravity. A deep bruise, if sustained in the right place such as top of your shoulder or elbow, can worsen if left to gravity pulling the weight of the arm on your joint. Therefore it depends on the location and type of injury. Xrays can dx fractures only
