Chest pain: There are multiple possible reasons which include: bronchitis, pleurisy, pneumonia, costochondritis, pneumothorax, pulmonary embolus and intercostal muscle pain from coughing. An urgent care or ER visit should include checking your vital signs including blood oxygenation, as well as a chest xray and doctor exam. Please go now.

Several causes: Chest pain on breathing is called pleuritic chest pain. A rib fracture or chest wall sprain/strain can cause this.Other causes include viral pleurisy, pneumonia, pneumothorax, pulmonary embolus with infarction, aortic dissection, SLE, metastatic cancer, uremia. If there is significant tenderness on pressing the rib cage it suggests a strain/ sprain or inflammation of chest wall. See Dr if persists
