About a week: Antibiotics for bacterial pharyngitis don't help much with duration of symptoms; at most, they reduce the duration for a day. They do reduce how contagious you are, and for strep, reduce the risk of problems down the road from the infection, such as rheumatic heart disease. If your strep throat is not better in about a week, go see your doctor again.
