Can inflammation on the second metatarsal (foot) cause the joint to be loose rather than stiff?

Foot inflamation: Typically inflamation makes the surrounding tissue ,warm, swollen, and firm or stiff, so it would be best for you to be checked to further evaluate your symptoms and findings,

Out of joint..: About the only way that could happen is if the injury that caused the inflammation some how subluxed or partially dislocated the joint. Even worse if the the inflammatory incident totally dislocated the joint. You would probably be in some serious pain.
