A member asked:

Severe joint pain in hands and feet and morning stiffness. sed rate is norm. so no inflammation. so why do they hurt?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Don't assume ...: That there is no joint inflammation because sed rate is normal. It's unclear from your note how long you have been experiencing severe joint pain; in the early stages of joint inflammation the sed rate may be normal and even the finding of joint swelling can be subtle. You are in the age group in which Rheumatoid Arthritis may occur. A more sensitive marker for inflammation is the CRP; ask MD.
