A member asked:

Is it safe to clean your retainers with a colgate soft total advanced whitening toothbrush? would the whitening harm the retainer?

No toothpaste: Brush retainers on removal and just before reinsertion with a soft toothbrush, no toothpaste. All toothpastes, especially whitening toothpastes, are slightly abrasive and can scratch acrylic. Place into denture cleaner (Polident, Efferdent) daily.

Whitening: Anything labeled whitening usually has higher than normal levels of abrasives. Brush your retainer 2x/day with a plain soft toothbrush, no toothpaste. Put your retainer into denture cleaner (follow package directions) EVERY day.
