A member asked:

Will brushing a permanent retainer with an electric toothbrush destroy the cement in any way?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Permanent retainer: No, brushing will not damage sealant. The sealant in time will wear away and have to be repaired or replaced, so keep an eye on it. If it looks or feels like it is failing see your Orthodontist immediately. Failure to brush, and especially failure to floss, around a permanent retainer will lead to damaged gum tissues.
