Cold Sore Treatment: Gentleman reporting his treatment of cold sore with alcohol. Alcohol is not the proper way to treat a cold sore. It will heal from the inside out, but the fastest way to get it to go away is to take medicine such as valacyclovir, which you get by prescription. You can also use Abreva which is sold over the counter and applied topically to the sore. One can also take aleve (naproxen) and use ice. Good luck.
