See MD: It seems there are 2 issues: the eye and the weight. Eye tearing/discharge in an infant can be normal when one of the valves draining the tears into the nose hasn't fully opened (valve of hasner). Most of these tear valves open by age 2-3 years, so that immediate intervention isn't necessary, as long as the eye isn't red. Your baby's low weight should be addressed by a pediatrician.
