A member asked:

I just got a blood test and my hemoglobin was 15.9 g/dl and my hematocrit was 48% which is over the standard range. what could this be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dehydration: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, could it be that you did not drink enough water the day you had test. Next time drink a couple of large glasses of water, even if you are asked to come fasting. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
