Mgt: You may have pneumonia which can cause irritation of the lining of the lung. This irritation may result in bleeding which tinges the sputum a brownish color. Please ask your doctor to send the sputum for bacterial and possibly fungal cultures. Monitor your temperature, and please see your PCP to discuss a course of antibiotics, culture and maybe a chest x ray.
