See answer: If the pain has been present for a number of days or weeks and responds to treatment for GERD then your ENT is likely correct. If the pain is sudden in onset and there is a possibility of swallowing a chicken bone, or if the pain doesn't improve, a CT scan should be done followed by endoscopy.
