A member asked:

What are some foods that will help raise hdl and lower a1c?

Not the key: Despite all the "pop" advice you read online, food choice is far less help for this (and for most else) than simply getting yourself out for your favorite form of exercise and working a sweat for an hour a day or more. This would be a wonderful gift for yourself and those who love you.

Foods that help: raise HDL include olive oil, fatty fish (like fatty tuna), whole grains such as oatmeal, beans, legumes, nuts, chia and wine. Dark chocolate has also been mentioned. To Lower A1c, you can increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, stick with low fat proteins such as lean dark meat chicken and fish, drink green or black tea, and low fat yogurt. Avoid highly fatty foods.
