Protect it...: From your question, I can't figure out if the stabbing pain existed before you walked and subsequently twisted your ankle, or, you twisted your ankle while walking and now you have a stabbing pain. Either way, a stabbing pain in the ankle means something is amiss. Keep it elevated, stay off of it, apply ice to it and brace it. It is possible that you have sprained it and may need further attention

I would recommend: a visit to a foot/ankle doctor. A clinical exam and possible diagnostic imaging to determine extent of injury would be prudent.
