Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is fast acting and is a good adjunct to epinephrine. However for the days following a severe allergic reaction, Zyrtec is great as it lasts a longer amount of time than Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and doesn't make you as sleepy. Atarax is fine but is a prescription medication and not indicated for acute allergic reaction
