Usually, not always: On dry skin, herpes lesions usually start as red bumps, within 1-2 days become blisters, then scabs that heal in 7-10 days. On moist surfaces (e.g. labia minor, vaginal opening) usually ulcers (open sores) rather than blisters. Most OBs are painful, especially ulcers, but some cause no symptoms or only minor ones, like a mild itch. Recurrent OBs usually are same area each time, +/- an inch or so,
