Depending on the involvement of the nail being infected, topical treatments take a long time if they work at all. Minor problems can be resolved topically but requires constant attention and time. Recent studies show bacterial involvement as well. There are oral anti fungal medications available. They can be effective but not 100% of the time. Blood test required to monitor liver function.
