Not necessarily : Many people have antibodies against their thyroid. These people are at a greater risk of developing thyroid disease and need periodic checks to see if treatment is needed.

No: Elevated thyroid antibody may place an individual at a higher risk for a thyroid condition but no medication is needed as long as the thyroid levels are normal. Be certain to inquire about subclinical hypothyroidism.

Not yet: Anti thyroid antibodies are a sign that your immune system is attacking your thyroid gland. Over time, your gland may fail and them you will require thyroid hormone replacement. Your physician should check your TSH level periodically. When TSH starts to rise, consider medication. Antithyroid antibodies raise your risk of having infertility issues. Make sure your ob/gyn is aware of this.
