Are there any serious concerns about mixing zoloft (sertraline) and valerian root?

Yes: first, they act through similar means so there is not a good reason to take both and there is a good reason NOT to take valerian root. It might not be what the label says it is AND if it is, it will have effects on liver metabolism of zoloft (sertraline). The elevation of zoloft (sertraline) and the same action of valerian in theory can trigger serotonin overload (serotonin syndrome).
