Self Medication: Penicillin will not solve your dental issues. Antibiotics are great for infections, but do not fix rotten teeth. You will need to see a dentist immediately. An alternative is the ER for immediate treatment. You are absolutely correct to be concerned... the infection can rapidly spread to your eye and to other parts of your body. All the best...

Worry: Swelling means infection is spreading. A full course of antibiotics, taken at appropriate intervals for a full 5 days, will help reduce chance of infection spread. To cure the infection mandates removal of infected tooth material (root canal or extraction). Please don't self medicate...see a Dentist yesterday rather than tomorrow.
