Do not hurt yourself: 22 year old lady with suicidal ideation. Please do not even consider hurting yourself. Major depression and suicidality can be treated and your life will improve no matter what you think right now. You need to get help to stabilize. All US Military servicemen and women and their families can chat and call a crisis line immediately: Call 800-273-TALK to talk with a crisis counselor. Please call.

Major Depression: You are a Precious Human Being! You were born with Wonder of Life Force, giving you Breath of Life; due to which you have lived for 22 years. Your Life is a Gift! Request to see Psychiatrist, be open about your suicidal thoughts and fear of being locked up; your willingness to have Inpatient Psychiatric Treatment for depression and hopelessness; and that you need Treatment, not Punishment.

Honesty is the best.: Mental illness is not a crime, and you are not going to be jailed for it. If you tell them honestly what is happening and if you are a danger to yourself then you may be hospitalized, but that is a far cry from being jailed. Your attitude and thinking is what is getting in your way. Mental health care is about treatment in medical conditions, not punishment. Decide if you want help, and go.
