No Worry, Watch...: Generally speaking, when a clot forms in a superficial vein, it is short termed and not as dangerous as one forming in a deep vein. The goal in treatment is to reduce associated pain and inflammation and preventing complications. It is possible, but not probable, a deeper vein could be affected later. Treatment may include moist heat, elevation and compression hose. This usually resolves totally.
