It can NOT: Iron deficiency is mostly from blood loss such as heavy menstrual bleeding or child birth. Hookworm is an important cause in some places. Injuries, intestinal bleeding, major surgery, frequent blood donations are also causes.

Does not cause: It is stated that people who are iron deficient tend to chew on ice. Chewing on ice does not cause iron deficiency.
