Doesn't happen: The current 4th gen (antigen/antibody) HIV tests detect all known strains of HIV. The idea of newly evolving HIV strains not detected by standard tests is not quite an an urban myth, but close to it: extremely rare if it occurs at all, and nothing to worry about.
