Frequently: Blood pressure is monitored throughout surgery. How frequently depends on the health of the patient, the type of anesthesia, and the operation. With sedation BP is measured every five minutes on average. For more complex cases, a catheter can be placed in an artery to provide continuous live blood pressures. The most critical time is the induction of anesthesia.
