Foot spasm: or twitching can simply be a sign of a nerve impingement. This can stem from a higher nerve area such as L5, which innervates the middle arch area as well as the 4th toe. Typically, patients notice the lumbar spinal nerve injuries at night while lying flat. This may also simply be incidental. I would check with your provider for a proper exam, diagnosis and treatment if needed!

Intrinsic Problem.: Quite possibly, you have managed to irritate one or more of the intrinsic muscles of the foot and the nerve that controls them. Subsequently, sporadic and diminished discharges from the affected nerve are causing the twitching or spasms of the involved muscles. More than likely, the problem slowly fade away, as the affected nerve(s) and muscles calm down and recover.
