Swollen lymph nodes: Lumps on your neck are most commonly due to infection/inflammation related to viral or bacterial illness. Depending on your age, smoking status and characteristics of lymph nodes, one should have a heightened suspicion to confirm there is no tumor or even cancer. Older, smokers, with firm lymph nodes that continue to enlarge would need specialist evaluation and biopsy.
