Take antihistamines: 20 year old female with face swelling and hives while taking azithromycin. Sounds like an allergic reaction to the medicine, but hives and swelling could also be due to a viral infection. Azithromycin allergy is rare. Symptoms should resolve pretty quickly with oral anthistamines (diphenhydramine, cetirizine, etc). If not resolving with antihistamines, please see your PCP or allergist.
