Not always.: Endometriosis is usually pretty obvious to the surgeon and pathology tests are often not needed just to make the diagnosis at the time of surgery; however, if anything is removed from the body it will be sent to pathology for tests. Biopsies are sometimes done if there is question about the diagnosis. Best wishes!
