Various entities: There are various entities that can present as a tender lump on the scalp. The most common types of lumps on the scalp are cysts and lipomas. There are other growths as well, but they are not as common. Cysts can become tender if they are inflamed or infected. If a lipoma, cyst, or other type of growth impinges on a nerve, that can cause tenderness. I would have it evaluated by a dermatologist
