A member asked:

Can a dermatologist tell if a mole is benign by looking at it for five seconds with a dermatoscope with no oil?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

How quick is quick: Yes. Most dermatoscopes nowadays do not require oil. The features of a benign mole are easily seen. While nothing in life is gauranteed, it's certainly within the realm to do it with alacrity. If you are still concerned, ask that it be biopsied.
