Bursitis: There are many potential causes, but one of the more common is a bursitis. There is a tendon known as the ITB that can run over the greater trochanter of the hip and cause inflammation of the underlying bursa. Therapy to stretch the tendon can potentially help as can a cortisone shot given in the spot. Don't hesitate to be seen for an accurate diagnosis.
