Varies: There are a number of possibilities, I would not hesitate to be seen. Among the more common possibilities include an problem in your hip (which usually causes a referred pain to the upper thigh) or a "pinched nerve" in the upoer lumbar spine. A detailed exam and appropriate studies will likely determine the cause.
